I love egocentric articles
"Nicole kidman joins MEPs to say NO to violence against women.", is the title of the main article in the European Parliament website (that is very people aware these days, it's becoming as interesting as "the sun").
Great! did she come to the parliament ?
Was she welcomed and recognised by the world famous estonian member of the parliament siiri Oviir (yes, that's really an MEP) ? Do we have pictures of her overwelmed by emotion to be invited by such an important assembly ?
The text of the article, albeit less flattering for the parliament, and even slightly opposing what the title says, might be closer to the truth:
"Leading MEPs have joined Nicole Kidman and the UN in the Say NO to violence against women campaign. Some 5 million people worldwide have already added their names to the campaign."
Well, doesn't matter who was first, as long as the result is good:
"MEPs have until 12 March to sign. A Parliamentary written declaration comes into effect if a majority of MEPs sign it. "
Ah, so that's just a project so far ? Well, anyway, if the MEPs succeed gathering all the signature and reach the majority, that's going to make a big impact, isn't it ?
"If a majority of MEPs sign this declaration, it will be sent to the President who will announce it in plenary"
and, what next ? Sending the peace brigade ? A million european blue helmet sent everywhere there is violence against women ? Major money put on education to solve the issue ?
"and forward it to the Commission and Council. "
...
Well
....
...There is a least one thing the parliament does better than this actress: our MEP Siiri Oviir as more than twice the number of "i" than Nicole Kidman on the name. That's already a success by EU standards.
Oh, and don't forget to vote for the next European elections.
